Oleksandr Kozarenko
composer, pianist and musicologist

Biography:

Was born on 24 August 1963 in Kolomyja (Ivano-Frankivsk region, Ukraine). Graduated from the Kyiv State P.Tchaikovsky Conservatoire (now Kiev National Music Academy of Ukraine), where he studied piano with Prof. V. Vorobiov and composition with Prof. M. Skoryk. Continued his postgraduate studies in musicology with Prof.I. Liashenko. PhD (Candidate of sc.) in musicology (1993). Doctor in musicology (2001).
Winner of the All-Ukrainian M.Lysenko Competition of Pianists (1984), Diploma Winner of the All-Ukrainian Competition of Chamber Ensembles (1986), Winner of the State L.Revutsky Prise (1996) and M.Lysenko Prize (2001) in the field of composition. Since 1992 has been lecturer of composition and music history at Lviv M.Lysenko High Musical Institute (now Lviv Music Academy). Since 2000 has been its Vice-Rector.
Main genres: symphonic, opera, ballet, chamber-instrumental, vocal and theatre music. His works has been the repertoire of the famous groups and performers of Ukraine (Ensemble "Kyiv Kamerata", Kyiv quartet of saxophonists, orchestra "Virtuosos of Lviv", capella "Trembita" and oth.) and has been performed on international festivals in many countries of the world: "Melos-Ethos" (Bratislava), "Days of the Krakow Composers Music", "Contrasts" (Lviv) and "Two Days and Two Nights of New Music" (Odessa).
As pianist, he pays special attention to performance of Ukrainian music of XX century, first of all as duet player with violinist Lidiya Shutko. As art critic he is concerned with the problems of national character of the Ukrainian professional composers creative work.
