The annual International Festival of Modern Art “Two Days and Two Nights of New Music”in Odessa now is one if the most large and informative festivals for new music and performing art in Ukraine. A specific feature of the Festival is 48 hours non-stop action (more exactly two 12 hours sessions) on the 3rd weekend of April from 23 to 25 April (this event). Music performances are theatralised and combined with visual arts actions, sound, video, cinema and multimedia installations. Unconventional modes of action rely on unconventional situation for the public. The Festival promotes all trends of avant-guarde, modern and post-modern music, including live-electronics, taped and/or computer music.
The festival’s action is unique because it was designed, according to the logic of its composer-founder’s conception, as a grandiose 48-hour event, where various kinds of art are organically combined into a non-stop music spectacle, a large-scale composition-performance with a distinctive atmosphere shared by performers and audience alike.
The conception of the festival remains the same: a large international event for new music with participation of nearly 200 musicians, composers, musicologists, and managers from all over the world and the same quantity from Ukraine. The focus of the festival - music drums. The aim is to unite new music with new festival form, to demonstrate the new trends of new music to the Ukrainian auditory (nearly 2000-3000 spectators), to promote the integration of Ukrainian music to the worldwide music culture. The particularity of the 16th festival is the wide use of theatrical forms and genres.
